Total hours thus far: 0

I would say the beginning of the semester was off to a rocky start. At the beginning of our return to school after winter break I got COVID unfortunately and our classes were just then moved online as a result in the spike in cases. Regardless of that setback, I am eager to get back to in-person classes at the beginning of February. Part of the reason I really enjoy in person classes is that I get to bond with my peers and since I haven't seen the majority of them since right before winter break, I am especially excited to see them. In regards to the course content thus far, I would say that I really am enjoying it. Recently I have been thinking a lot about how far we have come this school year. In my opinion, I believe that I have learned so much in only one semester. As I begin my MCAT prep which I started about a month ago, a lot of course content has been implicated in some of the passage-related questions which I was really excited about. While we have learned so much about Pharmacology, I feel like I have already began to think like a medical school student. In my opinion, with the help of my recent MCAT studying, I have realized how much information I am capable of holding in my head at one time; This is much more than I ever would have thought I could have. To be honest, even though it sounds rough I am extremely grateful that I have acquired this ability not only for the MCAT but also for medical school content which I hopefully will gain in the years to come.

Unfortunately, this month since it was a bumpy start, I was unable to complete any service hours. On the bright side, I have already signed up for 3 sessions this upcoming month with Second Harvest Food Bank to help them pack and prepare meals for children in after-school programs and elderly individuals at local assisted living communities. Part of the reason I am choosing to continue with this organization this semester is not only because I have gotten comfortable being there but I feel like I have become a part of something that isn't directly related to Tulane. Being able to connect with a diverse group of individuals who are also volunteers at the community kitchen has been eye-opening for me. Going to Tulane for my undergraduate career, I have had the phenomenal opportunity of getting to know my Tulane community and am happy that I am able to connect with local Louisianan residents as well.
